Because that is now the format of choice, hence why I put the terms in
apostrophes. I'm sure you understand the difference between the likes of The
Sun and the Daily Star compared to say The Independent and The Times.

Got burned a few times is all by newspapers in UK, especially science
reporters getting key details wrong after you explain and explain and
explain.

I understand what you mean. Science has gone down the drain generally, at
school, in the media etc. Shame, since a former Science Editor of The
Guardian was a personal friend and mentor of mine and he had real ethics. He
died some time ago now but is buried in the grounds of St Albans ( UK )
Cathedral. I still have a few books he gave me.

Too bad. Yeah I'm sure the US news are just as bad or worse (likely
worse). Just had personal experience with those in UK. Its really
annoying when they send someone out to cover a story that has litterally
no scientific training.

In New Hampshire we decide political and budgetary matters in town
meetings. Only rarely does the newspaper article accurately describe
the meeting. Usually they focus on a two minute argument and make it
appear to be the tone of the entire session.

Less often they write up some technical innovation I've worked on.
They can't resist putting an emotional spin on it by dragging in some
barely relevant controversy, which suggests they have little respect
for the intelligence and maturity of their readers.
