For portables: Honda or Generac

For the stationary: Guardian (Generac) or Kohler

It really depends on "How Big" your load is, and what fuel you
settle on to power the thing. Generac is JUNK, when compared with
REAL Commercial Gensets. If money is no object, then Northern Lights
makes some really nice diesels, as does Isuszu, in the 5Kw to 20Kw
range. These are capable of 60K Hours between inFrame rebuilds,
and can be had for less than $8KUS, Maximum, depending on size.

You probably haven't seen the Guardian / Generac commercial line then.
Certainly the little consumer 10-15kW nat. gas / LP air cooled standby
sets don't compare to the big liquid cooled 25-250kW sets in the
commercial line. Since the average home doesn't need that much power,
those little standby sets do just fine.
