I have an old 3500 watt Pincor generator.
The engine runs fine as well as the generator.

My problem is that the gas tank is made of metal and has alot of rust
in it.

The gas tank is about 6" wide and about 12" long, square type that is
held on the side by two metal straps.

Is there an 'aftermarket' tank made of plastic?

Any help would be apprciated.

Thanks.
J.

can you just rig an external tank into the old intake line?

kinda like this but don't go into the cap, go directly into the fuel line

Hi
If the tank is not rusted through, you can clean out the rust with some
muriatic (hydrochloric) acid fron a hardware store or a pool supply store.
Plastic tanks are availible but you will have to also buy the brackets to
mount it because the brackets for plastic tanks are different. A new
plastic tank and brackes will probably set you back over $100.
If you try to clean the tank, be sure to remove it and rinse thoroughly
before adding acid and rinse thoroughly after and rinse it out with WD40
after the water rinse, and needless to say muriatic acid is dangerous, at
least wear eye andhand protection and have plenty of water nearby to rinse
away spills.
If this scares you, buy the tank and brackets from a more modern engine,
after about 1990 they changed to plastic tanks. I could help if you would
post the engine model numbers (not the generator numbers)

There are metal tanks in the surplus market:

And plastic tanks available new:

You can also search Ebay with the generator brand/model.

Not that I know of. You might want to copy what I do. I run all my
generators using outboard motor fuel tanks separated from the generators. Two
major benefits. One, the weight of the fuel is removed from the generator,
making it easier to move around. Two, I don't have to mess with pouring
gasoline from one tank to another. when one tank is empty, I simply unhook it
and connect another. I haul the empties to the gas station later for a
fill-up. You can see a typical setup in the bottom photo on this page

http://www.neon-john.com/Generator/Quiet_pack_55G/Quiet_home.htm

To go this route you'll need a fuel pump. Two major options - electric or
impulse operated. The impulse-operated pump uses pulsations from either the
engine crankcase or the intake tract to operate a diaphragm that pumps the
gasoline. In this photo

You can see the diaphragm pump as the white object under the air filter. One
hose connects to the bottom of the black plastic gas tank. Another short hose
connects to the crankcase to deliver the impulses.

I prefer the electric pump option, especially with generators where 12 volt
electricity is already available but the impulse pump works fine too.
