I have collected a number of books on gas generated from wood and other
biomass used to power a gasoline engine. I have built a small test
generator, forced with compressed air, with good results.(The gas burns
with an almost invisible flame). I am going to hook up to an old coleman
powermate I have. The engine is just about done anyway so I have nothing
to lose on the experiment. I was just wondering if anyone in this group
has had any experience with this old but seemingly very functional tech.
Thanks
Don

I built a wood gas generator once. A stray spark caused the generator to
blow up and almost took my head off. Be careful !!

In addition to that, this could be a hands-off experiment?

I used two paint cans. I brazed a 3" dia. tube 1" shorter than the can to
the fixed end. I then cut a matching hole int the second can's fixed end.
Then brazed the two together. The bottom removable lid is used to clean
out the ashes. The top removable lid has a small hole in the center and
I attached a 10" pipe nipple 3/8" dia. with a 3/8" pipe flange and 4
machine crews. A gas takeoff pipe is brazed at the top of the bottom
chamber. I filled with wood pellets and ignited, then blew air into the
hole in top lid. I then ignited the gas on the outlet pipe. It took a
minute or two or it to come up to proper operation. With a filter it
should be able to run a small HP. engine.
