If you happen to come across any plans for regulated high-current (40-60
amp) 48 volt power supplies/battery chargers please let me know.

Start looking for surplus Telco Powersupply Gear......Most Telco
gear uses 48Vdc, and have Battery Backup banks in 48Vdc, with BIG
High Amp Battery Chargers and Power Supplies....

Also try sniffing around any place that deals in used golf carts.

Used fork-lifts(electric) also would be a good place to look.
