Oh, boy, do I agree. And not only are they ugly, but they're a
bureaucratic boondoggle if ever I've seen one. I just moved to
California from Virginia, where the Prius could drive in the carpool
lanes without any special decals -- I mean, the car itself is its own
evidence. Later, they changed the rule to require a special clean fuel
license plate; still, this is no way near as annoying as having to
paste a bunch of stickers all over your car.
Funny that California doesn't have a special clean fuel license plate.
Not only would that be more esthetically pleasing, they could make more
money by charging a plate fee every year instead of once for the
stickers!
