Just bought 6 GE high efficiency light bulbs at Canadian Tire. GE claims
that on 13 Watts they will give the same amount of light as a normal 60
Watt. The regular price is $9.99 Canadian. On sale for $6.99 for 2 with a
$5.00 mail in rebate from GE. So that's $1.00 each. Not to bad. I thinks
I'll pick up some more.
Cheers

Do they have Lowe's (big-box hardware chain) up there? They carry CF bulbs
at real deep discounts - and you don't have to go through rebate hassles. In
particular, look at the 3-packs of Sylvania equivalents of 60W bulbs they
carry.

Had a look at Low's and they are still $4 Canadian for one. ($12 US)

They also carry a good supply of 12V compact flourescents, if you want to
circumvent the inverter losses altogether. Granted, they are not the same
brightness as the CF bulbs...

While Home Depot is all over Canada, Lowes never ventured north of the
border. The two big retailers are Canadian Tire (it's name is misleading,
tires are now a small part of their business, they do not carry lumber and
heavy building materials but cover everything from automotive to housewares,
plumbing, electrical, tools, sports, guns and gardening) and Rona, HD's main
Canadian competitor.
