15 KW Generac - hour meter question

I have a 15KW Generac Home Standby System. This system did not come
with an hour meter (Hobbs). I have purchased an hour meter (12 volt),
but there are no instructions as to where to connect it to the system.

Can anyone tell me how to connect this meter?

You would need to look at a schematic of the generator. Generac manuals on
their website that probably include schemaics.  You need to know the model
number and maybe a serial number.

Then you could have a look at the schematic and find a 12v circuit that is
activated only when the generator is running. That is assuming it's a 12v
Hobbs meter.

Couldn't he also just use a relay that's closed when the generator is
running and hook that in series with the battery.  I'm making assumptions
here that the generator has a 12V starting battery, and also has some
sensors.  Perhaps there is an oil pressure sensor that is Normally Closed
when the generator is running.

Maybe, but a model number and the associated schematic would tell you
explicitly what was possible. You might not need anything other than the
Hobbs meter and a couple connections to the right wires.
