Has anyone come across a small size diesel generator (around 3-6KW)
that's water cooled or runs at 1800 RPMs and is quiet????
OK, if you haven't seen one as described above but can recommend a
small durable diesel gen, please let me know. All the small ones seem
to be alike! Thanks!

At the small end, Yes and no. Not a heck of a great answer, I know.
Found what appears to be just the ticket at the small end in one of the
boating websites, but have not gotten adequate answers regarding price
(boat stuff is often more expensive) and the near-incredible fuel
consumption claimed (on the order of units 10X the size, on a per-KWH
basis - better than either of the ones below). Barring any actual
answers from them getting here, I'll not mention the site.
At your higher end, yes, 6KW liquid-cooled 1800 rpm generators are
available, such as from Central Maine Diesel (on the web, I'm not
associated, have not even made a purchase from them as yet.) The 6KW
have relatively poor fuel consumption - I'm veering towards a 15KW
version if I go that route, in part because the price difference is
small, and the fuel consumption per KWH is better on the larger unit.

Thanks. In the short-term, I'm just looking for a small portable
generator.
Long term, I'm trying to decide between a Kubota 15kw, Cummin (Kubota
engine), and a couple others.
Biggest challenge though that I have with a diesel is the issue of the
need for enough headroom and yet the requirement of running it at >66%
load. When I add up the items I'd like to power around the house and
figure out what's running all at once, it seems like diesel may not be
a good choice. I need the extra power for the A/C and refrigerators
when they com on but when they're off, the diesel generator is not
running at a high enough load. I'm actually investigating getting 2
generators. One that runs on natural gas/propane that works better on
variable loads and a diesel for loads that I know are constant. The
6kw is probably pretty expensive if I had to guess too.
Thanks. glenn
