A Roadway device generates electricity by capturing kinetic energy of
cars that are passing by
A new MotionPower Technology prototype generates
electricity from kinetic energy created by motor
vehicles passing by. A prototype has been installed
by New Energy Technologies of Burtonsville, Maryland
at the front driveway of the Four Seasons
Hotel, Georgetown/Washington, DC.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. If it takes energy from a car
then it must cause the car to use more gas. I'd call it stealing energy.

They're putting on their brakes, slowing down at the hotel
parking garage, Burger King drive-thru lanes.
I suggest delaying judgement till you get details (isn't that
a remarkable thought?)
Do you "steal energy" when you use a wind generator? Or
do you utilize it as the wind blows past?

Said, "cars passing by". That's stealing energy if placed on a road as
device would slow down car. Parking lot, different story, but doubt it
would be cost effective.
