Anyone tried using Compact Flouresant Lights that are not rated for
dimmers?
I have some and they work fine but I am not sure how they will last.
If they do not last long maybe the LED's will????? Maybe John Kerry
will guarantee that energy will be an
issue????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Funny you should ask. I took a Sylvania Pricemark brand 15 watt spiral and
put it on a dimmer circuit. I applied full power to it and gradually turned
it down.  It made a buzzing noise before it went *POP!* at about 1/3 power.

Greenlite and TCP make the dimmable CFL's. Most state that they dim
down to 20 percent. The one time I wrecked my non dimmable CFL was
when I turned it way down. The dimmable ones probably limit the low
setting and protect the unit?

I'm not sure, i've been curious to sacrifice one and take it apart to see
what makes it tick.

I work in the lighting department of a hardware store and I keep a large
range of CF's in stock.  We just started carrying a dimmable and tri-light
version of CF made by Globe Electric.  The trilights are outselling the
dimmable one.  Id like to see our store get some dimmable floods for track
lights and perhaps a few of those LED lights.  I get people asking about
them.  I usually tell them to check the Internet or ledtronics.com for info
on it.
