But you go ahead and

That sentence above sums it all up. Because people can do what they
want with their money (at least as of today) in the US is why we have
wonderful things like CF bulbs. Let the free market handle the
"problem" of CF/incandescent. It's worked for a couple hundred years.

The take-up of CFs in the USA is uniquely low.
A very poor example of the supposed merits of the free market 'being a good
thing'.

I belive this is because the electricity in the US are too cheap. If
the prices are rised, people will be more concerned.
It also seems like US sitizens think that more power=progress
In Europe prices are about 15c pr KW/h and people seem to care about
how mutch electricity they use, even when they dont realy need to save
the money.

In America, if the utilities charged what the people thought was too
much, some group of businessmen would find a way to make it cheaper
and sell it and get rich. Terrible deal, I know.

That is a good thing.
The bad thing is that there seem to be no incentives to do things in a
way that will make life better for all of us.
In Europe, the price of destroying nature etc. is factored into the
price by taxing. You are alowed to be wastefull if you wish, but you
have to pay a litle for the polution.
