Which web site is that? I haven't been able to find one with fan
energy consumption comparisons.

has some numbers. Figure 4 demonstrates that most fans have similar
performance, even if not labeled energy star. But it also show that
there are some really bad models. It also indicates that running a
less efficient fan on low speed will save more energy than running a
more efficient model on a higher speed. And of course if the fan has
inefficient lighting built in, then that will waste more energy than
the worst fan.
