Well thanks to y'all in this group I decided to go with a cheap-a$$
generator from Home Depot :) :) :)
I went to look at them and they had their normal Coleman and Generac
selection at rock bottom prices with rock bottom quality engines.
However, they had a price marker for a "Coleman with Honda engine,
model 6875" for $729. I thought "WHAT ????" So I had one of the
dudes find one.
Up next to the ceiling and just before closing. Store closed before I
could get any more data on it.
Did some research on the net and the closest model was the Coleman
Powermate 5000.
Average net prices about $1,600.
I think I got the last one they had, but it's late again and maybe
I'll go get a couple of spare ones. The model has changed slightly
for this year, it now has a roll bar. Here's about the one I got:

Once again, thank for the knowledge imparted here.

I used to work for a guy that was the service/warranty arm for these
generators. We had more trouble with people over maxing them out than
anything else. So my recommendation is make sure your below the max output
even when the washer is getting ready to spin.
We had put a kit together that I could change out in less than an hour.

How are you liking this genny? I'm thinking about getting one myself.
btw, according to the tech at Coleman, the Home Depot PM0495503
differs from the PM0495503.17 in that it doesnt have voltage
regulation or auto-throttle, which is fairly typical of the models in
this price range...
Thanks,
S

Well since the ONLY thing I bought it for was to:
Run the sump pump - critical
Run the fridge
Run the freezer
Run a few lights
KEEP SWMBO QUIET - critical
It's been very succesful.
We've had one storm roll through that was causing power outages, and
though I never even fired it up the silence from SWMBO was gratifying.
I bought a kill-a-watt to monitor the power and the couple of times
I've fired it up and put a small load on it it seems to be pretty
constant.
I figure if it keeps SWMBO happy for 10 storms it will have paid for
itself.
9 to go :)
