I would like to compare electrical power consumption in my home to others in
this group.
My Home: Small split level (1100 SF) built 38 years ago. Two retired
people and 1 son that works full time.
Natural gas for: Space heating, hot water, clothing dryer and cook stove.
Electrical devices: One fairly new 7 CuFt freezer, One fairly new 21 Cu Ft.
refrigerator, top load automatic washer, average room lighting (a fair bit
of florescent) a large screen tv (on a lot) , 1.5 ton air conditioner
(climate mid northern Ontario Canada) and of course my computer (on a lot).
My average daily consumption over a two year period has ranged from a low of
10 KWH to a high of 28 KWH.

I'm about 1100 KWH a month, so about 31 KWH a day... My house was built
in about '70, has blown in insulation... not enough... and there
probably isnt anything between the wallboard and the concrete blocks. 3
br, 2 people, all electric, no freezer, just a fridge

Consistently 10 kWh per day, most of that a 30 year old refrig/freezer.
NG stove, furnace, water heater.
Furnace blower motor rated 1.9 amps at 115 vac.
I think a new refrig would cut my usage in half.

Hi Jack
Comparisons are hard to make because of climatic differences etc.
Nevertheless - New Zealand at 40 deg S. Temperate climate (frosts in
winter; av highs of about 25 deg summer).
Home - about 995 sq feet, approx 55 years old, two bedroom walls
recently insulated. Two people, not yet retired but work from home.
Heating - woodstove which heats water in winter.
Occasional fan heaters.
Electric stove.
6 cub ft fridge/freezer, 2.5 cubft freezer.
Ancient auto washing machine.
All flouro lights
Computer with lcd screen (on 4 hours a day).
Present usage about 8 kwh a day; maybe 12 in winter.

7-10kwh per day. In Canada. House 3 years old. Two adults. Most things
on power bars to shut off phantom loads. Front load washer. CFL lights.
Hot water and space heating from oil. Fridge/freezer 22cuft about 10
years old- that's the biggest power sucker.
