Re heat pumps. These are now common technolgy. They are either ground

I've always thought that having the
panels on a raised frame was the best
idea. It allows air circulation to cool
the panels which should lead to higher
eficiency and/or longer life and also
shades the roof which should lower
interior temperatures.
