They don't literally chop birds up, i.e. cut them into pieces, but birds are
known to be killed when they fly into the path of the blades of large
windmills.

Sheesh.....people are known to be killed when they step into the path of
large moving trucks.
For that matter, people are known to be killed when one country invades
another country to steal their oil.
Screw the birds - they'll learn not to fly into windmills soon enough.
Let's get our priorities right here.

God Bless America!

It would be different if I didn't know the birds. Same as if some guy in
Cleveland got ran over by a truck would not effect me the same as if it was
someone I knew and cared about. The falcons sometimes come and sit next to
me when they are young. One of the owls drops by to say "hi" when we go for
a walk at sunset. Even the damned ravens are all distinct individuals and
we have an understanding: they don't get into my trash and I don't shoot
them. The gnatcatchers are not extremely bright and need guidance as to
where to and not to build their nests. I would feel guilty if any of these
birds got killed in my wind generator.
But, if only .53 get killed chances are it won't even be someone I know.

UC stats from a 4 year study. Worse case windmill found directly in
the birds migratory path: 0.53 bird kills per year.
