Lots of discussion on these pages about converting heat to electricity
(via turbines, steam engines etc). I often wondered why thermocouple/
thermopiles were not used. The aswer is they were but the research
seems to be abandoned these days. Wonder why?

Because they're VERY inefficient. End of story.
