I remember ages ago that people were trying uncessesfully to cold
start the Smart APC UP's (myself included)and discussing mods to do
so.

In case anyone if still trying I came across the solution by chance
this morning while modifing a Smart 3000i APC for an external battery
bank.

Press and hold the "I" button till it beeps, the lights all flash then
go off.
Release the button
Press the button again until it "beeps" - while the beep is still
sounding release the button and after a slight delay of a second or so
the UP will fire up off line.

I have checked it on several APC of different sizes I have lying
around and it worked on all of them.

some like the smart 900 have a master switch on the rear.
have to hold down 1 and turn on the switch.
the 24v old 650 with the membrane switche gets turned on at the rear then
you push 1 and alarm cancel together.apc sure wont tell you this either.
sorta like service menues on pc monitors.
gotta play to find them.

 Hey gang..
A friend has a 48V APC inverter,model 2000X (??) I think he said.
It's complaining that the battery needs to be replaced, but it seems to
be fine. How does one go about resetting this?

Thanks in advance!  Patrick.

it needs batts if it is showing the replace batts light.
that indicates excessive voltage drop during self test.
change them now before it goes completely.
