Dunno about boilers, but my Morso "squirrel" woodstove, which
just finished its 5th season is definitely a gasifier. Seems
definitely the way to go, to meet EPA specs and avoid catalyst.
Primary air keeps fuel actively smoldering/partially burning,
such that heated secondary air fans the remaining fuel into flames.
Sometimes, the only visible flames are at the secondary air
discharges points.
No probs here re squirrel's efficiency, clean-burning, etc., etc. So,
this is not new technology, and can pretty easily be made to work,
though it is a bit pickier than older-generation woodstoves.

I have a Econoburn 150,000 btu unit. I replaced an Aqua-Therm 4 months
ago. I went from burning a wheel barrel and a half of slab wood a day
to using 4-6 pieces of small split firewood a day to heat my hot
water. Check out www.altheating.com they have a 10% off sale right
now. That puts them less than the Tarms. The rest of the gasification
boilers are junk! Some of the companies are in bankrupcy, others are
about out of business others just won't call you back.
