This Generac Guardian backup generator is installed as follows,
utility power to meter to 200-amp breaker to automatic transfer switch
that splits to the generator and the house main panel inside.  On
another group it was advised to not start the generator under load.
My question:  Is it possible to start the generator under load with
the above hardware configuration?  Doesn't the automatic transfer
switch with its' control circuitry and timing mechanisms prevent just
this, starting (and stopping) the generator under load?

The Guardian Automatic Transfer  Switch waits about 30 seconds
after a power failure to see if it was a momentary drop in the
voltage.  It then starts the generator.  About 45 seconds after
the generator output voltage is stable it throws the transfer
switch to apply the load to the generator.

When the external power returns it waits about 30 seconds
to see if it is stable.  It then throws the transfer switch to
remove the load from the generator and connect it to the
power company feed.  The generator runs for another
minute or so to cool it down and then the generator
is shut down.
