Or you can remove the fuel cap and blow some pressure into the tank and hold it
for about 5 seconds. That will force fuel past the check valves in the fuel pump
and into the float bowl, and it will start on one pull.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I've just happen to have the
perfect little portable air compressor to do that with too. The
problem would be sealing around the hose while your pressurizing it
and deciding how much pressure to use. I suppose you could wrap a
clean rag around the hose to seal it with.

Thanks. That confirms my suspicion that an empty float bowl was
the root cause.

After doing a little internet surfing, I just noticed that Honda sells
their own fuel stabilizer and according to their description it
"ensures quick start-ups after storage". Maybe I'll try some of that
stuff.

My experience - with my Honda EM5000 - it will go
about 3 months - with no start-up difficulties (second pull)
After about 4 or 5 months - a few extra pulls to start ;
then maybe 5 minutes of "hunting" - until the fresh gas
flushes things out ... then it runs fine.
I use fuel stabilizer in my winter gasoline supply
but nothing in the summer - I use up the gas in the lawn mower.
I usually run it dry - before storage - but I can't say that it
matters. My most recent test - 2 days ago - found the gas valve open -
it started second or third pull & ran fine.
Gotta love them Hondas.
