I have a website but it's a completely unrelated topic.  I've been
working on the project for five years now, and am only now seeing how
it works from a practical point of view. I can put some pictures up
here if anyone's that interested.
The main problem I have found is infiltration, that is lots of
tiny airleaks.   As I have modified an existing house, it's very
difficult to eliminate them.

Makers are developing insulated lightweight bodies, that require little
energy to heat or cool.

Did you notice that the fuel is measured in imperial gallons. A friend of
mine bought a 1980 Rabbit diesel new and got 51 and 52 mpg in US gallons. I
don't know the conversion, but it appears to me that the mileage is less on
these cars? Isn't a US gallon 3.8 liters and these are 4.1 imperial gallons.

..
Gasoline / AYGO 3 & 5-door 1.0 VVT-i 5-speed Man & M/M

  a.. Urban: 56.5 miles per imperial gallon (5.00 L/100 km; 47.0 mpg-US)
  b.. Extra-urban 68.9 miles per imperial gallon (4.10 L/100 km; 57.4
mpg-US)
  c.. Combined: 61.4 miles per imperial gallon (4.60 L/100 km; 51.1 mpg-US)
  d.. CO2 emissions: 109 g/km
  e.. 0-100 km/h: 14.2 seconds
  f.. Standing 1/4 mile 19.50 s
  g.. Top speed 157 km/h (98 mph)
Diesel / AYGO 3 & 5-door 1.4L Diesel 5-speed Man

  a.. Urban: 53.3 miles per imperial gallon (5.30 L/100 km; 44.4 mpg-US)
  b.. Extra-urban 83.1 miles per imperial gallon (3.40 L/100 km; 69.2
mpg-US)
  c.. Combined: 68.9 miles per imperial gallon (4.10 L/100 km; 57.4 mpg-US)

The average mileage is approx the same as the USA.  Britons regularly drive
long distances, over 100kms

It's rather telling that in this area 100km is often one leg of the daily
commute and what passes for metropolitan areas are 150 to 300km apart. On
the other hand, residents of an area like Boston may view a 100km journey
as a once in a lifetime experience.
