I am going to be installing an off-grid power system using a diesel
generator, Sunny Island inverter/charger and batteries.

I have been offered a selection of different batteries, and from
comparing specs and prices the Hella Endurant deep cycle batteries are
looking pretty good.

Has anybody had experience with these batteries, either good or bad?

Thanks,
Alistair.

Hi Alistair,
what capacity of battery bank are you looking at?

Up until recently, we had a small system consisting of 360 watts of PV
and 4 X 200Ah Hella Endurant batteries.
No complaints with the batteries and they were still going strong after
being in service about 7 years.

The PV array was recently increased to 1200 watts and the battery bank
replaced with 4 X Enersun SSR700-6 (700 Ah).

Glad I bought the batteries when I did  as their price has gone up 25%
since.

The system we have now I regard as a bare minimum for our situation - 2
people, a fridge, a freezer, a couple of computers, and the usual
lights, tv, stereo, etc. In sumer, we run the generator for perhaps a
couple of hours a fortnight.

Given the capital, I'd like to have at least 2kW of PV and an 1100Ah
bank of BP PVStor cells.
