Well... if we all click on a few of the Google ads on his site, "z"
might be able to get a beer to go with those tacos. While I am
no fan of Google's advertizing practices, I did find that the ads
they put on "z"'s site were worth a look. If he gets some return
for my just looking at a few more ads in my life, that's fine by me.

Well then, let's all go click on z's ads. Maybe he can get a whole case of
beer.

Ahh thanks but I'd feel bad about that. Those people pay to have those
shown so i'd be better to have folk who will actually buy something click
on em
Thanks for the thought ;)
Most of the adverts on there are from semi-legit companies from what I've
seen. No scammer ones.
So please don't cost them money just on my account
cheers

The potential for a referial or purchase is only one of the
reasons to pay for advertizing. They are likely very glad to
pay a little to have the oppertunity to make their pitch to the
type of person who frequents "alt.energy.homepower".
They are more than willing to have the "looky-loos", as on
the internet they can't block the cash register. It also allows
them to refine the site, product descriptions and any other
factor that may improve the effectiveness of their efforts.
There are plenty of ads that have no identifiable product
or extore the virtues of things that aren't even offered to the
general consummer.

So, the advertiser actually has to pay more each time the ad is clicked? I
would have thought it was more of a flat-rate type of thing. Who knows,
perhaps someone will ask me where they can get nine books on home energy
production and now I know where to send them ;-)
