Hydrogen Fuel To Account For 20 percent Of Power Industry Says Russian
Billionaire
Tag it:Written by J Whittaker
Interfax has reported that Norilsk Nickel General Director and co-
owner Mikhail Prokhorov will vacate the GD office in early April to
establish a new company that will focus on hydrogen power generation
projects. Prokhorov and GMK's second owner, Vladimir Potanin, are
willing to complete the assets' split by the end of this year.
Norilsk Nickel is the world's leading producer of nickel and
palladium, and is also Russia's foremost producer of gold. The company
accounts for up to 1.5% of Russian GDP.
Mr. Prokhorov, a Moscow State Financial Institute graduate who ranks
at #89 in Forbes' annual Worlds Richest People list, said that roughly
20 percent of global power industry will be based on hydrogen fuel in
future.
Norilsk Nickel already holds 35 percent in fuel cell design and
manufacturer Plug Power, which entered into a strategic partnership
agreement with New Energy Projects National Innovation Company.
Norilsk Nickel owns 74 percent in the undertaking.
It has been estimated that Norilsk Nickel's mining and smelting
activities account for 1 percent of the entire global emission of
sulfur dioxide, and pollution from the company's Norilsk site also
affects nearby Norway, which has offered financial support to remedy
the situation since 1990. However, due to official Russian neglect and
the company's lack of interest this has never materialised.
Prokohorov's departure from Norilsk Nickel to focus on hydrogen
technology will therefore mark a shift in environmental perspective.
"My experience of work in Norilsk Nickel gives me a good basis to get
engaged in high-tech innovation business that will provide new work
places and tax base in the growing Russian economy," Prokhorov said.
"I plan to resume some of my projects in Norilsk and with Norilsk
Nickel. First of all, it concerns projects in hydrogen power
engineering. I would like to try to break through in the development
of high technologies of Russia," he added.

Actually for all the trouble .....you can use silicon like in PV .
Water like in your electricuted hydrogen.
And build a beta voltaic with tritium for an "electrolyte".
Of course ,nuke battery would be a dirty term in your view of the world.
Since it would drive a EV or home with electricity.....instead of hoping to
some day.

Still need hydrogen generated ideas ....that actually work.
How about TDP of all carbon based waste.
To an organic compound like diesel or plastic.....
I know recycling might not be a popular idea with you.
Especially if it is as simple as Pine tree technology. Carbon is recaptured.
Then expelled by animals as CO2 and the cycle restarts.
With the pine recapturing the carbon.
Nature's own carbon credit system of sorts.....and more honest than Gore.
