I don't normally use WD-40 on guns but I did use it on a completely rusted
shut, filled with mud single shot shotgun. It keeps getting a layer of rust
on it though. Gun oil seems to help.
I also use WD-40 and carburator cleaner on my cheapo Saturday Night Special
(.22). I often carry it in my pocket and it gets a lot of dirt and dust in
it. It's a crappy gun but is fairly reliable with the mentioned cleaning
routine. I just carry it mainly so if I ever come across any trespassers
that won't leave and start to give me some shit.... I've also shot a couple
of rattlers with it using .22 shot.
I did not like using Marvel Mystery Oil in air tools because it seemed to
make the O-rings swell up. I've always had good results by spraying a
little WD in there especially if the tool had gone unused for a long time.
Lately I've been using 10W30 motor oil for a lot of things that I used to
use 3 in !, WD-40, and Marverl for. So far so good.
