There no such thing as a 12 Vdc "Transformer".....

Maybe on your planet. Take a look at your cell phone plug in
transformer...I bet you it says 5VDC output. It just goes to show you
what your level of knowledge really is.

Now boys! Just because he toots many other BS things doesn't mean everything
is BS. Many times, and we all do it, we use short forms, acronyms and drop
words.
"I want some Italian tonight"...some familiar to you cannibals here?
The magic word missing is "output" and what is a "transformer" really? Just
because somebody has coined a term in common usage to mean a particular
thing. Many believe "Transformers" are movie creatures made from metal. Now
tell me they don't run on 12Vdc and how you would know that.

Maybe on your planet. Take a look at your cell phone plug in
transformer...I will bet the farm it says 5VDC output. It just goes to
show you what your level of knowledge really is.
An alternator is a 3 phase AC generator. A series of Full wave bridge
rectifiers converts it to DC. It is no different for most types of plug
in transformers. Most of your smaller electronics use rectified
transformers.
