Earth's northern temperatures were hotter than at any time in 1500
years, according the largest climate data that accessed climate change
on decadal and centennial scales.

According to Michael Mann, Director of the Environmental Systems
Institute at Pennsylvania State University in University Park the
findings reinforce most conclusions by climate scientists that planet
Earth was warming unusually outside of natural conditions.

The northern hemisphere has become hotter while the southern
hemisphere - while not as hot - was warmer much faster than during
previous centuries.

A report published in the US journal Proceedings of the National
Academy of Sciences quoted data received from natural climate archives
such tree-rings, corals and ice cores

The results extend previous conclusions that recent increases in
northern hemisphere surface temperatures have been caused by human
emissions resulting from the burning of fossil fuels.

The natural archives revealed "wiggles" of warming and cooling in the
past, driven by natural variation and surface temperatures in the
modern period. Importantly, the more recent warmer trends showed no
evidence of being triggered by solar variability or other natural
