Hi fellows;

I have a friend who is considering purchasing this 17.5 kw generator
as a strictly standby unit for use during hurricanes here is South
Louisiana.  I asked him to find out who made the engine and he came
back with service manual with GENERAC on the cover, but don't know if
they make their own engines.

Could you guys give the pros and cons of this unit as you see it, as I
would like to pass it along to him before he plunks down the money.
He would be open to any suggestions as to other units, and he intends
to run it on Natural Gas, as it is a tr-fuel engine, but it looks like
the conversion was done at the dealer.

Do you think this is a Chinese generator?  Any help, suggestions
appreciated, and I will pass them directly to my buddy.

Will NG be available in that area in a disaster?

It is usually last to go bye bye.

Don't know personally, but you might consider some other
opinions.

Has he thought of how much it is going to cost per hour of operation, or
does it make any differance to him ?  If cost is no object that is fine.
Also if using other fuels than the NG, does he intend on storing the other
fuel and how much storage capacity is he going to have ?

I don't know the cost for NG but anyting you get over about 5 KW the cost
factor goes way up due to the ammount of fuel used.

The friend is in the deep south, so no concern about winter blizzards.
So they want a 33hp genset that has been described as "Generac
Junk" that typically doesn't start well.
Sometimes it's better to give people what they think they want.
