You must be from America. Modern diesels are far less polluting than
petrol engines. Even got catalysers fitted.
All Europeans know this. And you can't tell the difference until you
come to the filling station.
I haven't owned a petrol engined car for, oh, twenty years at least.

The noise gives it away. When outside they sound like tractor.

Actually some of the new deisels don't rattle any worse than the
average GM gasoline engine - and with Blutek technology (or other
contenders) don't even stink TOO bad.
Very complex, high maintenance emission control systems though -
things like Urea injection --------.
