Similar to my experience, when i have a bag of soda cans and bottles i
try to set it out early enough for the "trash can / dumpster" divers.
One time it was in sight of one, the gratitude was embarrassing.

I've found that putting a $10 sign on the item works better. No one
wants it if it's worth nothing. If it's worth $10, free is a
bargain.

The local landfill is being used for the methane.

If you have broadband, your ISP may have a NNTP news server included in

Some are being used as methane resources but I think it's maily just burnt
off for safety reasons. Some bright UK developers decided to build houses
on landfill you see and some of their houses blew up.
Now, used more intelligently, that methane might be put to good use.

Running 6 or 7 big CAT generators at the Waterloo Regional landfill
IIRC. The old facility in Kitchener fueled BestPipe for years.
