Be sure to capture the energy from rain falling too. Especially
when it runs down the spout from your eavestrough.

One of the micro-hydro places near me has it's gutters set to dump the
water into the mill-race it's on. Okay, I'm never going to claim it (or
the micro hydro plant further down said mill-race) generates significant
amounts of power due to this but I do think it's an elegant simple piece
of design.

cool.
I always wanted to design a micro-hydro turbine that fit in urinals .. so
you could piss on them at the bar and see how much power you could make.
A couple of LED's on the wall in front would let others in the bathroom see
just how powerful your stream is
and then you'd make some more power when you flush. I'm sure we could
recover several hundred miliamps that way!

Good idea, wrong market.
In your use, someone would pop a kidney stone and jam the turbine or a
clap dripper would gum the works.
Medical field is where the money is. Anyone who has been to a
urologist with prostate problems will tell you how they get poured
full of saline and then have give back as much or more than they
received. Your turbine would measure the rate of return.
