This question isn't exactly home-power, but I figure you guys have
experience in this... My utility offers a scheme whereby I pay less $
per kwh (about 7 cents vs. 11) , but I pay a monthly fee for every kW
of maximum demand, with a minimum of 5 kW. I'm pretty sure that if I
run both A/Cs, the oven and lights, I'm well over 5 kW, probably
closer to 12. It's a big crib.
Anyhow, I was thinking that I could have a controller that would turn
off non-essential loads to avoid exceeding the max. demand usage. I
would imagine that this would make sure that only one of the A/Cs runs
at a time, or that none of them run if the oven and dishwasher and
washing machine are on, you get the idea.
Does anyone have experience with the type of equipment that would do
this, or is this a stupid idea to start with?
Thanks,
Jee
