I live in Leeds, (England)my house is South facing I would like to
become self sufficient in electrical and heating energy any advice on
the most efficient and cost effective technology available.

I live in Leeds too, in January we installed solar water heating on our
south facing roof and are very happy with it.

We're interested in pv too but haven't done anything about it yet. One step
at a time ... I doubt that you could become 100% self sufficient in
electrical or heating.

The first day it was all connected it was 4C outside and we had a cylinder
full of water at 30+C. That's a useful temperature. We've hardly used any
other water heating since (apart from the kettle of course).
