I'm about to pull the trigger on a sprinkler pump. I'm deciding between
these two
Flotec FP5242, 1.5HP 27GPM @10' lift and 40PSI, 2" intake, 1.5"
discharge. Iron with NOryl impeller. $328
Sta-Rite DS3HF, 1.5HP 30GPM @10' lift and 40PSI, 2" intake, 1.5"
discharge. Iron with Noryl Impeller. $420
Both have 1 year warranties and both are made by Berkeley.
My application is a lawn sprinkler pump that will be used during the
summer months, once or twice per week.
Thanks for your advice.

Not much to choose between those two. Are you looking for energy
efficiency, or just price versus features?

Energy efficency and reliability. Trying to understand if the Sta-Rite is
worth the extra $$$ to be honest. I didn't intend to post to this group,
but now that you revealed your in the know, I'm glad I did :)

Premium pumps are often used in off-grid applications to keep energy
consumption to the minimum. But it's expensive compared to
conventional pumps. Here are a couple to give you the idea.
1. Almost direct replacement for a conventional
http://store.solar-electric.com/dsp-02011.html .
2. Submersible, would probably require some extra installation for
your application http://store.solar-electric.com/grsqpu.html . The
11SQF-2 might suit.
Both are near positive-displacement, versus the typical
centrifugal-rotor design of the two you mentioned. Reliability of both
is good, but they aren't as bullet-proof as conventional designs,
which are so simple that they seldom fail unless abused.
