The likelihood that the United Nations will soon finalize a scheme to
slow deforestation in the African and Amazon regions had increased
following overwhelming approval from delegates attending the UN's
latest climate meeting.

"We're getting beyond some of the rhetoric," Yvo de Boer, head of the
U.N. Climate Change Secretariat said while referring to the 160-nation
meeting in Ghana that included 1,500 delegates. "People are beginning
to understand each other better."

The  Accra gathering had set out to embrace the broad objective to
define the building blocks of a new UN sponsored global warming pact
slated for agreement by the end of 2009.

Specifically, the meeting was looking to find the best approach to
help developing nations slow deforestation.

Cash from rich countries to slow deforestation was widely seen as the
best incentive to get poor nations to start slowing their rising
emissions of greenhouse gases, mainly from burning fossil fuels.
