I bought mine online from Northern Tools themselves on Dec. 21, for $99.99
with free shipping to the store. They will be on sale again for the same,
if you can wait.

Every christmas season for the last 3-4 years. that's why I posted early, to
give people the opportunity to grab the $100 special. You can usually find it
somewhere on the net in the $100-120 range.

John this may a bit off topic but I want to make sure I
have my head wrapped around this correct.
Are you saying that for emergency situations or living
off grid the best route to go is to have a generator
charging up deep cycle batteries and inverter coming
off the batteries to make 120vac?
Three separate components
And that's better than anything solar powered?

I didn't say anything about best. I've been addressing power loss scenarios
and not off-grid living. Ulysses is the guy living off grid with the
generators.
As far as solar goes, whether it suits your needs depends on your pocketbook
and your location. Solar is impossible where I live. Not only do I have a
canopy overhead but the weather goes for weeks at a time in the winter where
the sun never makes it through the overcast. I think that the sun has shown
about 3 days since Thanksgiving.
From my perspective, solar would be a hard sell even if I had sun exposure.
For the cost of enough panels to power my cabin, I can buy lots and lots of
gasoline or diesel or whatever I decided to burn to make electricity. Since I
have grid power, that is irrelevant. If I ever get to build on my lake
property, I'll be off grid but then it'll be a large micro-hydro powering my
house.
