I would like to have an emergency generator but do not want to go
through the hassle of maintaining one. I understand that one can not
use a car alternator directly as it is to small but I was wondering if
one could not use a car in some other fashion.

Could one use a set of rollers like they do when they are doing
emmissions testing on cars?

Or could one put a car on stands and pop off a wheel and attach some
sort of coupling to the disc that could then connect to a generator?

Is this an absolute pipe dream?

You might consider a propane powered generator. Very little maintenance
required at all. Just change the oil periodically, and pay your propane
bills.

What hassles do you imagine?  IME, maintenence "hassle" is far less
than that of the average lawnmower.
