On the Prius thing my main interest is described on a web site known as
http://www.priups.com (click on the car). That it would roughly double the
MPG compared to our current car (97 Lumina 3.1) and be cleaner is simply a
nice side effect.

Have you considered getting a ScanGauge 2?
For use on the Lumina.

Yes I have. Haven't looked lately but I hear they are pretty nice. I just
wish it had what my 95 Grand Caravan SE has and what my sister's 91 Grand
Prix GTP had, a real time and average MPG readout.

Then get the ScanGauge 2.
Instantaneous MPG, speed, engine speed to the last digit,
engine temp, cumulative MPG.
