As many of you may already know Black & Decker took over Vector, or at least
their warranty repairs.  I took my Vector 1093A Smart Charger to the B&D
repair place and they sent me a new charger (the cooling fan failed and the
positive battery clip broke).  It says Black & Decker on it and it's model
number 1093DBD.  The case looks about the same.

The new model has a couple more features.  The "ON" button is now a battery
select button with the choices being Wet, Gel, and AGM.  If it takes you a
couple minutes to get to the charger after powering it then you have to push
buttons about 12 times instead of five to set the battery type and set it on
40 amps.  Oh well.  It defaults on 4 amps float charge Gel instead of 000.
The alternator check button now also displays the battery voltage.  The
battery clips are much stronger than the old plastic ones and the cooling
fan sounds like it's a little more powerful (and hopefully more reliable).
I've noticed that the charging rate is a lot steadier than on my 1093A and
it seems to work better with a crappy generator than the old model.  When
you first set it on the charge rate it now gradually steps up to the set
rate instead of jumping right into 40 amps etc. making it a little more
friendly to generators.

All-in-all I'd say these improvements are actual real improvements.  The B&D
service center I took mine to did not seem the least bit interested in
trying to repair my charger (or my Vector 800 watt inverter).  They sent me
a new one (of each) and it only took about six days to get them.  BTW my
inverter also had a failed cooling fan and this was the second one with the
same problem.

So, if anyone has some broken battery clips on their Smart Charger now seems
to be a good time get it replaced (if you can live without if for a week
;-).

Like you say, the battery clips look much improved.  However the cooling
fan on my 1093DBD seems to be failing...

They should make the fans easily replacable without opening the case.
