Our place in Lisbon (for sale) has wonderful soil.
There was a farm there in the 1800's... and even as
recently as 20 years ago, horses were kept on the
property, so it's all rich and loamy.
There are probably lots of spots that used to be
farmed.

There is that... but don't forget the lack of
sales tax and income tax.  Property taxes set by
each town means you can pay 1/3 the tax in one
town for a comparable house in another.  (Unfortunately,
Lisbon is on the high end.)

There's plenty up in the North Woods / White
Mountains for everyone up there.  Hey, I know this
place for sale that already has a 12x36 Atlas/Clausing
lathe AND a pellet stove in the basement AND a small
wood stove in the kitchen.  ;-)

Every place has its advantages and disadvantages
and, as you say, you can find happiness almost
anywhere.  It just comes a bit easier in some places
than others.  ;-)

I think I find more happiness in what I do and who I'm with, rather
than where I'm at.

It seems to me the inside of a house looks pretty much the way you
want it to, no matter what state it's situated in?
