Actually, /everybody/ can see their post (I pulled it down from
news.qwest.net along with everything else) and they were kind enough to
post it to all the groups to which I subscribe.
Usenet can be a PIA for everyone involved, but is about the best (only?)
mechanism anyone has ever come up with for spreading the word globally
for topical developments.
I doubt those responsible for making the decision at AT&T have any clue.

That makes me feel better about AT&T, but not about their decision,
now it makes me wonder if NTTP is going the way of the Dodo bird? (no
good way to advertise on NTTP)

Exactly! I have been watching the slow death of NNTP for several years
now. Even Google, while pretending to be the main web interface to Usenet,
and serving as the main archive, has been killing it by allowing unfettered
access to spammers.

Actually, I got their post from newsguy.com. They posted it to their
machines and for whatever reason their machines just forwarded it out to all
the usenet servers out there like every other post.
As far as the rant, yeah I felt the same way when TimeWarner pulled the same
crap.
Then I found out the other day that local propane bottle exchangers (the 20
lbm bottle kind at big-box stores you exchange for full ones to use in the
grill) have cheated. Now a '20 pound tank' costs the same as before, but
they're only putting 17 or 18 pounds of propane it them. They thought
people would notice a rise in price but not a reduction in product so they
opted for the latter.
