Gets 60+ mpg........ carries two people and some gear. I've driven one
and to me it is the most practical commuter car currently on the market
Looks kinda funny...is that what did it in or were there other
technical issues?

Ugly as sin, grossly over-priced, tiny and probably worst, Honda freely
pandered to the green-weenie eco-trash. That bunch fawned all over it, even
bought a few but mostly, environmental crap is for "the little guy" and so
they went back to their SUVs and limos. Regular folk would not be caught dead
being associated with that bunch.
Funny thing is, Volkswagen for years has made a little turbo diesel that gets
as good or better mileage, isn't so tiny and looks like a regular small car.

I, and my wife, resemble that remark!
(We have matching Insights)

You have my most humble sympathies.
Seriously now, I am curious as to what prompted you to buy the Insights. How
did you get past the ugly factor? Most "unusual" new styles I get used to. I
thought the Taurus was something that was excreted instead of built. Now it's
just another jellybean car. The sparrow made my eyes hurt but now I want one
real bad. Same with the Scion brickmobile. Etc. Not that Insight. Gawd,
that thing is ugly.

Very simple. I wanted a car with high mileage. I'm (or was)
a single guy so a two seater with modest (minimal) additional
load capacity was a-ok.
The fact that it's an uber-k3wl bit of engineering, being
the first hybrid marketed in the US, was good, too.
(There's a _lot_ more to the Insight's high mileage
than "merely" being a hybrid, but that's a story
for another novel).
I picked up a second as an engagement gift for my (soon
to be) wife, and also as a spare.
As to their styling, I'd consider them decent, not
earh shattering in either direction.
