Ya know, the last time I hung one, like I said, I took stock, and ran
the numbers myself, thinking along the same lines as you did. On the
80' kit for a 1kw turbine, for instance, there is almost a thousand
feet of stainless steel guy wire in the kit; four directions, four
heights, plus the gin pole guys. Three saddle clamps and stress
teardrop for each guy wire at each base, something like seventy clamps.
They're not free, either ;-). The tower pipe clamp sections are
machined to exactly fit the pipe specified. And the machined turbine
mount at the top, and the tower and gin pole pivot pieces at the base.
The guy wires are already cut sized correctly for the installation.
And it comes with full engineering specs if you need it for the
inspectors or insurance monkeys.

To be honest, if I was going to hang one, for myself, by myself, I
would probably consider "junk yarding it". You could do it in a
one-piece, if you could weld the tower sections together instead of
clamping them, and weld on the guy loops to the tower. To get that
done, though, that would pass engineering or mechanical spec, unless
you're a stress welder by trade... not free.

But make a copy of the kit from new-bought pieces? Hey, with a decade
behind me as a millwright with a fair bit of machinist training, no, I
don't think you could do it yourself as cheap, not even considering
cheaper.
