Would anyone who has owned either of these inverters or similiar please
tell us your how long and hard you ran it and what your experience was
with durability,repairs etc.? I found a SW2512 new stored for 5 years
so am tempted. Outback is cleaner sine wave but draws 5-6 watts search
according to posts in their forum by moderator. Thanks

FWIW, I've had a pair of SW4024s for nearly ten years. Very happy with
them. Mostly they have an easy life, but occasionally run at full
capacity for short periods. Haven't used them in search mode. Only
problem was some years ago when a grass hopper got inside one and
shorted it out. Trace replaced the affected parts without charge. You
might check the archives though for comments about Xantrex in general.
As I recall, there have been a few grumbles about them being
unresponsive to email or some such. Might also be worth a call to
these guys http://www.sunelec.com/Distributors_/Trace/tracetrace.html ,
they've sometimes had refurbs listed at good discounts.

The guys at Trace that did the "Great Customer Support" are the same guys
that walked "Out Back and down the street", and started OutBack. This
happened when Xantrex, bought out Trace. OutBack is much easier to talk
to and deal with, by far.
Bruce in alaska who owns a 4024 and a 2624, and has for MANY Years,
but would buy an OutBack in a heartbeat......
when the Traces die......

I disagree with Bruce. I think Xantrex is very easy to work with. There
are always exceptions and somepeople just get bad service from time to
time anywhere.
Outback is great also and the only thing I do not like is the way they
look. As for the seach wattage you really do not know what that is as
it is also affected by the homes wiring. I would never use 12 volts
unless it was a Boat or temporary. 24V is minimum.
The newer SW Plus series is screened and only no see ums can get in.

Thats interesting, How can house wiring effect search wattage?
Also news to me that insects can cause a short. Do you think the insect
has to be wet to do that?
