So why hasn't more been done in the US? Granted, we don't want to mess
up the gysers at Yellowstone, but there are plenty of places where it
would bother nothing.

A large ranch near Yellowstone Park, tried to tap into geothermal power by
drilling a deep well into the formations about 20 years ago as I recall.
The result was to diminish some of the natural hot springs and geysers in
the area.

Yes, I was somewhat aware of that. That was why I specified other
places.

The map above is of particular interest since it shows that some power

It's done in Iceland but then the energy there seems to be readily available.

Actually Reno Energy LLC and the University of Nevada has a plan for
geothermal area heating in Reno.
