Hey z, from where I'm sitting it sounds like your problem is the flux.
Without the right flux your solder won't flow but you have to be careful
about acid flux because it can eventually destroy some electronics.  I think
I read somewhere that there is some special stuff for soldering cells
together and I even think there might be some kind of conductive glue too.

My hat's off to you on your hydro project and all.  Good job!  Like millions
of other people I'm still trying to come up with a cheap, easy way to make
electricity from sunlight.  I'll let you know when I figure it out ;-)

My old man bought at 48

If it wasn't for the prices I might still consider not buying solar panels
cause I'm so pissed off that I can't get the rebates cause I'm off-grid.
Fortunately the governor here is working on Terminating the state government
so pretty soon we'll all be on a level playing field.

Soldering individual cells requires Silver solder, not 60/40 lead/tin.
Its feasable to make your own panels , but I dont think you'll save
anything.
Plus how do you replace the panel down the road? jus buy a  prefab
panel.

Cheers

the glue might be the thing to try.  I have a flux pen which is supposed
to be the stuff to use.  I pre-tin the solder and such.. its just so
fiddly man.  You get one tab on and then you if you breath on it, it
falls off .. or they don't line up.  Its just a matter of my lack of
dexterity most likely

I need to find those pics of the eu2000 wind generator you made and post
some of those pics on my site (if you don't mind).  That was a true home
brew operation :)

I know.  There is a program in Oregon where if you feed back into
'certain' grids they'll help fund your system.
http://www.energytrust.org/
I guess some utility companies kick in cash to promote generation.  But
not for the likes of me and you. On the upside I guess any increases in
energy costs due to cap and trade won't show up on our electric bill!!

Us pioneers have to go it alone, although i'm writing off some of this
stuff as a deduction for powering my home office.

You need to shop around more. If your needs are flexible you should be
able to find some for more like $.50 Start here

I'd been to that site before last year and it seems like the prices have
gone down quite a bit.

Cheers for the link!
