well according to the pirus owner he said I should get a motorcycle.the only
thing is bogus is you.if I get a motorcycle. lets say Harley-Davidson.it
gets 50 to 60mpg.it will still get less emissions than your pirus.so I guess
we all should get one of those hybrid I mean half-breed pieces of crap and
save the world.get your dam facts straight . I am saying the dam thing does
not get anymore gasmilage than cars from the past. yes there smaller.so
f---ing what.you might know something about a pirus but you don't no crap
about anything else.

I don't think anyone here believes that a Harley Davidson is a very
efficient form of transportation, with an engine that
can barely run at idle without stalling, and more horsepower wasted as
sound pressure than should be allowed by law.
What everyone has been trying to pass through the wax in your ears is
that a Prius, with a curb weight of 2890 lbs, and a carrying capacity
of 5 adults gets over 60 mpg.
A Geo Metro weighs 1690 lbs and can only carry four adults.
So, per pound of mass transported per gallon of gas, a Prius is almost
twice as efficient. It's also not a stripped down piece of crap like a
Metro.

"Over 60" ? I have not seen that yet on any unmodified ones.... 51 to
55 is what I normally hear. Sure, there are the guys making it a
"plug-In", but that doesn't really count.

"60" MPG, even if the majorities DID get that high, is also NOT
"double" the MPG over the Prius by anyones mathematics.
Funny how these discussions always bring out peoples personal beliefs.
"Crap" ? Sheez.... The GEO was what it was, and it was excellent at
what it was in its time. A 4 door could be picked up for right around
$7000 in '93. The 2 door xfi version ran around $5800. Cars the size of
todays Prius ran between $15,000 and $22,000. It WAS "stripped down"
because it was supposed to be. I know that is hard for some to grasp.
As "junky" as some think they were, you wouldn't know it by how those
who purchased them and commented:
http://www.carsurvey.org/modelyear_Geo_Metro_1993.html
The Prius is wonderful for those who can afford them, and afford
anything that might arise with them. Anyone too poor to fool with one
certainly can find a Metro very reasonably. There are quite a few
running around my town with well over 200k on the clock.
So, while some will always view the Metro as a "stripped down piece of
crap" by Prius Standards, I view it as quite an amazing little car,
that sold new for under $8000, delivered higher highway MPG's than the
Prius (if the discussion was about weight issues, see the guy in the
link above who claims to have pulled 4000lbs with his metro and still
got over 40MPG), and even more suprising, still is represented by quite
a few on the road after 16 years !
Wow ! The little Geo ! Amazing car that should get admiration rather
than being called in some way defficient.

thank for your words. I am not trying to knock hybrids. I just get mad at
people when they don't listen.the only complaint I really have with hybrids
they cost more to operate than the same car with a gas engine. some figures
I have seen with the mileage increase of the hybrid and the regular version
you only get a penny a mile for the hybrid. at that rate you would have to
drive 100000 miles to break even for the hybrid option.this was on a Honda
version.I am of the school that there are old cars that still get great gas
mileage are an option. I have bought a Nissan altima for 1200.00$ 40mpg. now
to me that is even better that a 15000.00$ pirus or a 6000.00 metro. that
way you're money ahead.

Crap my friend, the combined mpg of a prius is the best you can get
period for any five seater midsized car in North America and the second
best for any sized car sold in North America.
some figures

Nope, the Prius gets 60/City-51/Highway-55/Combined. Toyota does not
make a Non-Hybrid version of the Prius, the closest model to the Prius
Toyota makes is the Camry, which gets 24mpg/City-34/Highway-27/Combined.
As you can see the Prius gets twice the combined MPG as the Camry.

Sure you can buy a used car, but then you are comparing apples with
oranges, a fairer comparison would be between a new comparably sized
Nissan to the Prius. For example the newest Nissan Sentra gets 28/City-
35/highway, the Altima with the smallest engine gets 24/city-31/highway
35. So in your best case scenario, the Prius gets 36mpg better than the
Nissan around town and 17 mpg more on the highway.
