What is your opinion of folks who install solar in order to reduce our
dependence on foreign energy sources? Or those wo wantto reduce our
dependence on domestic coal to reduce sulphur dioxide (and
other) emissions?

No problem with either. Nor with those looking to save money. My beef is
purely with the Global Warming crowd.

something i've wondered, why does the global warming crowd bother some
people so much? it's as if they take it personally. is it possible to
simply sum up the reason without having to write a many page document?
b.w.

Because they want to tell me what light bulbs to use.

There is much feel-good symbolism and blame/suppression of current
technology, very little realistic development of replacements. See how
far you get by promoting energy-saving ideas that require any change
to peoples' habits, even very simple ones like my insulating window
inserts or sink spray shower head, or weather reports that suggest
when to open the windows at night rather than run the A/C.
Home Depot sells a push-to-spray shower hose for under $0.
